Welcome back to Regularguyadventures! I have been busy bow hunting, working and doing Thanksgiving / Christmas activities with my family over the past 2 months. Sadly, I haven’t had time or money to go on any big adventures but that doesn’t mean I’m not in the planning phase. More to come on that topic in a later post..
This past week, I made plans to visit my long-time friend Derrill. Derrill and I live about 2 1/2 hours apart so we need to dedicate an entire day to catch up with each other. Our agenda always includes a visit to a good BBQ joint at some point in the day. My research led us to Smokin’ Bros BBQ in Mansfield, OH.
Smokin’ Bros (SB) recently made the transition from serving their food out of a truck to an indoor restaurant in the same parking lot. SB is sharing their building space with a Chinese restaurant. SB would do well to install some additional signage to help direct customers to the appropriate side of the building.
Let me say what a pleasant experience with was to meet Dan and his wife, the two owners of SB. The “brothers” were originally Dan’s two sons who started the business. They have since left the business but Dan has carried on his son’s recipes.
- All the meat is slow smoked over Cherry wood leaving it with a light, mild flavor
- The sides are homemade including the creamy mac-n-cheese
- The meats (brisket, ribs, pulled pork) all dry rubbed but there are a wide variety of sauces that are also homemade and can be added on the side. I personally found the traditional red sauce to be the best.
- There are no fountain drinks at this point, only a limited selection of canned pop and bottled water.
As you can see from the pictures below, we tried ribs, brisket and pork pulled .
I just love Dan and small BBQ joints like SB. They are doing things the right way and care about the quality of the product he is producing. Overall, I would give SB a 7.5 or 8.0 on a scale of 1 – 10. I love the small business feel and the personal touch Dan is bringing to his establishment. In time, I think SB will develop their own personality as they decorate the interior of their new place and find a “style” that all quality BBQ joints eventually adopt. In summary, if you are in the Mansfield area, go out of your way to visit Smokin’ Bros BBQ.
